BURNHAM-ON-SEA PUBLIC ARTWORK
commissioned by Seed and Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Council (work in progress)
Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset
Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset
I propose to create three mosaic murals portraying views of Bridgwater Bay mudflats and the variety of wildlife that they support, including birds, invertebrates and plankton. As if windows onto both the recognisable and the unseen but essential parts of the ecosystem, the murals will highlight the importance of every living thing, big and small, in this unique habitat.
Materials: glass and ceramic mosaic tiles, fully weatherproof tile adhesive and grout. Mosaic is the most durable medium for outdoor murals with the potential to last for hundreds of years with minimal maintenance.
Dimensions: each mural will be 4625 x 590 mm, to fit exactly onto the textured panel surrounded by the rectangular border indentation, making the murals look as if they are framed.
Location: three blank sections of wall south of the jetty, between the pilot station and the first shelter with seating. There are nine blank sections in that part of the wall so plenty of room to expand at each side if further funding can be secured at a later date...
Info plaque: the artwork will be accompanied by a plaque with information about the different species
