GRANTON whale
Granton Gasholder Park, Edinburgh (work in progress)
Commissioned by The City of Edinburgh Council
Commissioned by The City of Edinburgh Council
I have been commissioned to design a piece of public art for the new Granton Gasholder Park, along with five other artists (where one of us will be selected to create the final artwork).
My design is a life-sized copper and bronze humpback whale head and is based on the results of the community engagement and consultations with marine conservationists. In the first round of community engagement I hosted a public workshop and consultation event, workshops with local community groups and conducted online engagement. The most popular form created in the workhops was a whale! In the second round of engagement local school pupils, including Oaklands School for children with complex support needs, and college students took part in the co-creation of elements of the artwork which will be cast in bronze if I am successful. An exhibiton of all six design proposals with be on display at Granton Station 18th-20th July. |
