This mural aims to capture Hebburn's unique character through its people and history. The story of Hebburn is told through its residents and those who have made their mark on the town, from the past through to the present. As well as portraits of townspeople it features other important historical elements with the main themes being industry, science and innovation. Most importantly, it endeavours to portray the civic pride and community spirit of the locals, as well as representing the relationships and families formed as a result of the industries established in this area.
This artwork was inspired by community engagement carried out by artist Lindsey Grieves and designed in consultation with a community panel. It incorporates portraits created by pupils of Hebburn Lakes School, Keelman's Way School and St Aloysius School.
