Viridor Tree is a 5-metre tall tree sculpture is situated at Viridor's new Energy Recovery Facility in Dunbar. It is positioned at the entrance of the Visitor Education Centre with the aim of engaging communities with Viridor activities as well as informing and inspiring visitors about the potential of waste management and recycling. The sculpture forms one half of an ambitious installation with artist Gardner Molloy, his artwork consisting of a 13 metre circular stone installation depicting a historical timeline and including a seat, together our artworks form a space for pause, rest, reflection and contemplation.
The artwork represents the transformative processes both in nature and those used at Viridor to recycle and harvest energy from waste. Including both organic and industrial looking elements the sculpture explores the relationship between nature and the (wo)man-made. The structure is also intended to visually and spatially tie together the Visitor & Education Centre, the main ERF building and the natural environment.
